Pain management specialist

Pain management specialists are medical doctors who specialize in treatment of people who have ongoing (chronic) pain, such as back pain or nerve pain from diabetes. Medical doctors from many different specialties, such as anesthesiology, neurology, or physiatry, might further specialize in pain management.

Pain management specialists can be board-certified through the Boards of Anesthesiology or Psychiatry and Neurology, which are recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
